The Toy I Thought I’d Hate

Published by quadmama at 8:15 am under General, Toys Edit This

My sister is the “fun” aunt. She lives far from us but when we have the rare chance to visit with her my daughters follow her around like they’re her ladies-in-waiting. So imagine my chagrin when her Christmas gift arrived and it was the loudest toy ever. Fun aunt strikes again.

But then my daughters actually started playing with the VTech KidiJamz Studio and I must confess, the toy is awesome. This thing is nothing like the Casio keyboards kids in my day begged to own. No, this keyboard is practically it’s own recording studio. The keyboard has various instrument settings (flute, piano, etc), plus rhythmic styles such as rock and hip hop. The “learning” function allows children to pick a popular nursery rhyme and follow along as the keys light up, essentially making your child a mini-Mozart. There’s also a turn table to mix your own tunes and a microphone to sing along. Perhaps the most fun aspect of the keyboard is the portable recording device. Your children can record their songs and listen to them any where. Quite a fun feature when you’ve got 4 3-year-olds who want you to hear every note they play.

My only complaint is the volume control. This baby is loud. My husband and I tried duct-taping the volume control at a reasonable level, but it only took our daughters minutes to get the tape off. So, pass the earplugs because this is one toy I think I’ll be hearing for awhile (and maybe playing with when my girls go to bed!)
